Psychoeducational Evaluation

A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s cognitive profile, academic achievement, and social, emotional, and behavioral functioning.

Psychoeducational evaluations at Breakwater Associates are comprehensive, individualized, and neuropsychological-based. An evaluation can help to reveal the following:

  • Learning Disabilities (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia)
  • Nonverbal Learning Disability
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Executive Functioning Deficits
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Other mental health or learning problems

If you should have any questions about the evaluation process, you may schedule a free phone consultation with one of our Licensed Psychoeducational Specialists/Certified School Psychologists prior to scheduling an initial consultation.

We strive to keep our waiting list down to two to three weeks and are usually able to give our clients results within two weeks after the completion of testing.

The process begins with a ninety-minute initial face-to-face consultation with one of our specialists. During the consultation, we will gather important background information about you or your child. You will be able to learn more about what a psychoeducational evaluation is all about and how it may help you or your child. If, after the initial consultation, a psychoeducational evaluation is recommended and you wish to proceed with an evaluation, our office manager will work with you to schedule testing appointments that are most convenient for you or your child.

Based on the results of the evaluation, our team will customize an intervention plan tailored for you or your child’s specific needs. Intervention recommendations may include tutoring, school-based accommodations (i.e., extended time on tests and assignments, preferential seating, sensory breaks, assistance with note-taking, alternate testing locations, early college registration, foreign language or math waivers), extended time on entrance exams (i.e., SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, Bar Exam), speech and language therapy, ADHD coaching, parenting support, counseling, and/or referrals to other professionals in the community (i.e., occupational therapists, ABA therapists, parenting specialists, psychiatrists, physicians).

The Breakwater team is available to consult with other professionals in the community.

The Breakwater team is available to attend school meeting to advocate for the needs of your child. Our psychoeducational specialists are available to help you obtain, implement, and monitor an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan at your child’s school.

Our Autism Spectrum Disorder psychoeducational evaluations have passed the approval of the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) and have led to our clients being granted financial waivers to help them obtain much needed services for their child.
